The new construction of the pedestrian and cyclists’ bridge over the Mulde as signet of the city of Dessau was created as a three dimensional work of art: a winding path through the landscape and over the river.

The new bridge connects the city with the zoological garden. In order to avoid intruding in the river it was decided to forego a solution using bridge abutments. Over the steel box hollow beams there is a steel tube arch on a slope, from which the footway is suspended with round steel bars and which stabilises the arch at the same time. The hangers outline a pedestrian space, making the crossing of the river a special experience.
