The planned replacement building Anatomy and Cell Biology, or EAZ for short, is a 4-storey new building, which is to be built as a reinforced concrete skeleton structure in the first construction phase on the area site of the current Freiburg Children’s Hospital on Mathildenstraße. The tectonic architectural vocabulary of kister scheithauer gross is functional in a modern way and focuses on good proportions and the sculptural effect of the auditorium wing, which introduces new scale-forming elements. A monolithic whitish “pearly” façade contrasting the mighty deciduous trees has a lasting, aesthetic effect and is the prelude to a “green” science quarter.
