19th October 2011 Foundation ceremony at Gerling-Areal
Yesterday, the transformation of the office complexes of the former Gerling insurances into an urban residential district got green light.
Nearly three years after the Gerling group moved out the area will be transformed into a residential and business district following ksg´s masterplan. Yesterday, ksg celebrated the laying of the foundation stone together with the Frankonia Eurobau AG, the client of the project.
ksg´s masterplan is based on several fundamental decisions, which are merged into an urban strategy. The nature of the architecture – the play of heights and depth as well as the urban character of the stone areas and volumes - will be retained. All the relevant existing buildings, such as Hufeisen and Rundbau as well as the low middle wings will also be kept.
Simultaneously, the existing area will be extended from 112.000sqm to 18.000sqm.
The principle of densification is developed out of the historic building stock while aimed at the urban goal to create cityscapes, to open passages, enable to experience thresholds and to be able to relate to the surrounding.
